The International Society for Virtual Systems and Multimedia is a unique cross-disciplinary organization for the exchange of cutting edge research in new media and virtual and augmented reality applied to everything from art to architecture, medicine to engineering, and archaeology to cultural heritage. We take pride in bringing academia and industry together with policy makers. We bridge computer scientists and artists, engineers and historians, policy makers and philosophers, archaeologists and architects, doctors and librarians, roboticists and cultural officials, and more.
VSMM was conceived in Japan in 1995 by Professor Takeo Ojika. It was arguably the first international VR conference and has remained a leading venue for cross-disciplinary scholarly research and exchange in cutting-edge multimedia and virtual systems.
The VSMM Society has held annual conferences for 22 years now, bringing leading researchers in the application of digital media, mobile, and virtual and augmented reality technology together with users across a diverse community. In partnership with the IEEE Society the majority of VSMM Conference proceedings are available on IEEE Xplore.
22nd International Conference on Virtual Systems & Multimedia
The International Conference on Virtual Systems and Multimedia (VSMM) is a premier world forum for the presentation of research on 3D acquisition, multimedia visualization, interaction technologies and their applications. Known for developing a unique and now transdisciplinary approach, VSMM has become a bridge between technology, art, culture, history, science and engineering.
This year VSMM will be held for the first time in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia at Sunway University and organized by the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Centre for Research Creation in Digital Media (CRCDM), from October 17-21, 2016. By hosting the VSMM conference, Sunway University (SU) will establish its position as a forum for research in creative digital media arts and technology.
The theme for the 2016 conference is “TTransdisciplinary – Transmedia - Transformations ” with a strong focus on research creation applications for virtual systems, multimedia, digital arts and technology and digital cultural heritage industries, and on the knowledge mobilization and the practical exhibition of such endeavours. The aim of this conference is to showcase and discuss fresh research and public engagement initiatives integral to all fields associated with virtual systems and multimedia, the founding pillars of VSMM. Keynote speakers, special sessions and panels combined with workshops and a cultural heritage exhibition will make this South-East Asian edition particularly exciting.
